The imposing Glin Castle, home to the FitzGerald family for over 800 years, is situated in a 400 acre estate on the banks of the Shannon. The present castle was built in the 1800s over the ruins of the mediaeval original. The famous Harper's Report describes Glin Castle as 'one of the truly outstanding private houses of the world' and, on entering, one is immediately struck by the grandeur of this gracious castle.
From the entrance hall, with its neo-classical plaster ceiling and Corinthian pillars, the unusual Flying staircase leads to the bedrooms. A secret door in the library bookcase also leads to the stairs. All the reception rooms contain exquisite antique furniture, part of an extensive collection of 18th century pieces. Elegant fireplaces lend a cosy atmosphere which is carried through to the 11 bedrooms. The castle kitchen provides superb food with many ingredients coming from the garden. These gardens invite one to walk and there is a tennis court and croquet lawn, perfect for summer evenings.
The castle's location is ideal for golf enthusiasts with Ballybunion, Lahinch and Killarney within easy reach. Other activities in the area include riding, angling and hunting. The 29th Knight of Glin and Madam FitzGerald would be delighted to welcome you to Glin Castle
